Mechanic Servaas Gerardu is the latest new face of the crew of 122(NEI)Sqn in Medan, Sumatra. He joined KNIL-ML in 1946. At the time he was 18.
To have air support on Sumatra and to replace the RAF Spitfire unit stationed on Medan, 122 Sqn was established in Tjililitan on 1 November 1946.
Mr. Gerardu was probably involved in the squadron from te very beginning and it is likely that he flew in the B-25 with my grandfather C.W. Bastiaans.
