The crew of 122 Squadron
By estimation, there must have been more then 200 people involved in 122 NEI Squadron. The crew flew and maintained 16 P-51 Mustangs, 2 Lockheed L-12’s and -later- an AT-16 Harvard trainer.

Gerardu, Servaas 'Vaas'
Mechanic Servaas Gerardu is the latest new face of the crew of 122(NEI)Sqn in Medan, Sumatra. He joined KNIL-ML in 1946. At the time he was 18.
Many thanks to his daughter Carla who found him on pictures from the 122th crew at Medan.

Bastiaans, Carol Wilhelm
Born in Semarang december 26 1915. Enlisted KNIL 3-7-1934. Was ML-KNIL aircraft engineer with 4th aircraft group (VLG IV) at Andir (near Bandoeng). Held in Japanese captivity from 5-4-1942.
As a POW from Batavia to Bandoeng, Tjimahi, Changi Singapore. With Hawaii Maru 2 to Moji Japan, Japanese camp Fukuoka 8B Inatsuki. Liberated september 1945 by US troops.
After september 21 1945 as ML-KNIL to Manilla, Bundaberg Australia (NEI-PEP), Java (121sqn), Medan Sumatra (122sqn).

Bastiaans, Guit, Allards en Durand of 18sqn
Sjaak Allards and Tinus Guit are also new faces of the crew of 122 (NEI) sqn. Tinus and Sjaak were inseparable. Boy Durand was a mechanic at Andir. He died in a crash in May '49.
